After locking our bikes at the key side we must have checked out almost every restaurant in the town of St Martin on Il de Re and eventually found this lovely little restaurant situated away from the main town overlooking the harbour. L’Avant Port is located in a quieter location on the key side in St Martin, away from the crowds.
We went inside to enquire if there were any tables available. The waitress asked if I had a reservation and I replied “No”. She asked if I would mind sitting outside and I said “No. That would be fine”. It was a lovely evening and I wanted to enjoy the atmosphere outside and watch the goings on around the harbour. We had been sat there a while and had ordered our wine and food when we noticed a sign on the door of the restaurant stating that the restaurant was listed in the Michelin guide. This then made our expectations rise for the food we were about to eat. We were not disappointed. The food was delicious and the chocolate fondant I had for desert was divine. During our meal we were at one point surprised to hear a Welsh accent talking about Cardiff City football. When we looked around to see who it was we were again surprised to see Neil Kinnock and his family also enjoying the restaurants’ delicious menu and relaxed atmosphere.
Overall I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting St Martin especially food lovers looking for a quieter more relaxed atmosphere.
