Amroth Arms, Pembrokeshire

We were on a day out and having had a quiet walk down from the National Trust location at Colby Woodland Gardens, we felt that some refreshment was in order. It was Morgan's birthday so this seemed a doubly good reason to have a "pub lunch". We decided that the "Amroth Arms", situated directly across the road from the beach, looked inviting and presented a reasonable menu selection (without being over ambitious).

The pub seemed pretty quiet and we sat down at 1pm. Dylan would have liked a burger but was content to make do with chips. The rest decided on a Coq au Vin, Chicken and Leek pie and Ham and chips. These were promptly ordered at the bar through the friendly bar staff.

It was at this point that the first "biker" arrivals came in - "biker" being a slight exaggeration as they were actually motor bike club whose members were mostly reliving their youth through their love of the open road. They were followed by more and more and soon the whole pub was lively and filled with chatter. Apparently they had tried to book food in other pubs but had been refused since they could "not confirm numbers". This sounds like the sort of thing a commercially run pub would say. Anyway the Amroth Arms were happy to accommodate them and made them welcome.

Back to us... I was a little concerned that the influx would delay our order but the staff coped well delivering our food promptly and efficiently. We all tucked in and agreed that the food was good and the portions were sufficient - at the end even Morgan was full which is quite an achievement for any pub. We supplemented the meal with a couple of drinks from the bar and coffee. Finishing off a rather pleasant meal.

In all I was pleasantly surprised that a pub on a beach front could maintain such a level of service and atmosphere. I enjoyed it and would revisit if passing again.
